I found a hand pump for $30 at Home Depot. We don’t like to open the drain plug or backwash valve when cleaning a filter because it makes a mess and takes time to clean up. The fastest and easiest way to clean a filter is to lift the grids out and set into the owners trash can, then role the trash can over to where we will hose off the grids, then using a hand pump suck the mud and water out of the filter tank into the trash can.
