Association of Pool and Spa Professionals

The California Pool Association (CPA) is a trade organization founded for independent pool service, repair and maintenance business owners. The association works on behalf of its members to provide affordable general liability insurance, wholesale pricing on equipment and supplies, and a vast professional network.

Here is a little more history of CPA from our VP Pat Grignon:

Chris Walters and I were originally brought in by a group of 15 pool service companies that offered a variety of different services and were of varying size. They weren’t happy with the insurance options available in the market, they felt they were underserved and the options were over-priced. They wanted our insurance expertise to help them create the best insurance program in the industry. One that would increase their coverage but also lower their costs. A tall task but if anyone could do it, it was us…so we got to work!

We spent the next 10 months customizing a general liability program with the insurance company. We took the unique perspectives from the 15 companies and built a list of the key components the policy must have. It took some convincing, but we eventually came to an agreement with Colony Insurance on a policy that met not just the coverage needs but also the “wish list” coverage wants. We were able to do this while cutting their insurance costs by 20% and eliminating several hundred dollars’ worth of annual membership dues. In early 2015 we incorporated and formed CPA in 6 days, signed our first 15 members and got the second to last available booth at the Western Pool and Spa show, starting just days later. We took the show by storm and haven’t looked back since.

Since that first trade show in our backyard, we’ve ventured out and expanded our efforts across the country. We’ve developed insurance carrier relationships to achieve exclusive discounts for our members’ nationwide, delivering better insurance for less money to our members. You’ll find us nationally at the trade shows in Texas, Atlantic City, Orlando, Monterey, Long Beach and Las Vegas.

We will continue to value our member’s input and encourage feedback on how we can improve. If you aren’t listening to feedback, flexible with changes and nimble to improve the experience for your members then you will slowly fade away. No one in this business has or will work harder than the CPA to deliver the most competitive and robust insurance programs in the industry.
